I began using this the other day on a Speculum TL10 that was in poor condition with green spots of verdigris starting to form and found it to be pretty good. I had already spent a good while using Autosol, which is also good but I was concerned that all the polishing was also removing the worn Speculum too! Here are some terrible pictures.. before and after 1 quick application
Here is the product and the instructions which are worth reading if you have high finish Stainless Steel or Enamel or High Gloss finishes I used a damp J cloth and put the powder in a used food container, dabbing the cloth into the powder, then applying to the lamp and gently rubbing.. then wipe off with a damp sponge and then a clean rag or cloth Hope this is helpful and of some use to folks I have only tried this on a Chrome type of finish but it seems to be very good and has been mentioned before as useful on glass Best wishes
@David Shouksmith Yes, that’s right. Sorry, I should have clarified that. Also not recommended for Gold or Silver It was ‘Peek’ I used on the initial cleaning, not Autosol as I said earlier.. Did you say a while ago that you used that on the Locomotion cleaning? It’s also good stuff
Yes, we use Peek to clean the brass parts of locomotives:- I wonder who put that dent in Scotty? - it didn't polish out, that's for sure!
Well, I’ll go to the foot of my loft ladder! No wonder you don’t want to clean lamps when you have a chance to polish history
Bar Keeper's Friend is a pretty aggressive polish, hence the warning about highly polished surfaces. In the US Mother's Mag and Aluminum Polish works well.
Made slow progress but managed to get the glass-retaining spigots/screws things out to enable access to clean. Not easy as they were tight and didn’t want to damage the delicate knurling.. so was able to utilise some soft jaws on a pair of pliers You can make out some plating on the spigot/screw.. there is some left on the knurled nuts but they are caked so not sure how much will be left
Forgot to post a finished pic of the polishing using Autosol and super fine wire wool The plating won’t improve any more .. it’s very old and has had considerable use, but I’m happy so far
