Good morning all, I have a Chalwyn Hurricane storm Lamp Newlynx, I am trying to locate a ventilator Cap with Four slots In, can anyone help please Thanks Gary
I'm in similar situation with my Chalwyn Far East hurricane lamp. recently, I broke the glass bulb and for the life of me cannot find a replacement. been searching on line for the past 3 months to no avail. will keep an I out at flea markets and such
I would be traumatised if I broke the globe for my Far East which is why it is rarely lit. Hens teeth would be easier to find.
here it is. without the broken glass of course. bulb measures 2.75" dia at top, 2.875" bottom, bulge 3.750" and 5.4" high I did find an English seller that sells all sorts of kero things, but when I enquired thru their website to verify got no reply so havent pursued it any further
@bonza TW Sands in Melbourne will have a glass for that lamp. They will be closed due to the lockdown, but leave a message. Cheers Tony
These are relatively common in the UK, the genuine Chalwyn glasses are marked accordingly, but you can get other non genuine glasses that fit ok, they just tend to be a little thinner. Chalwyn also produced the glasses in red and green, but they weren’t stained glass, more of a coating, the red glasses look ok but the green ones tend to look more like a mucky yellow when lit.
any pointers where in the UK, in case I cant get one here? I found one listed in the UK with a choice of Chalwyn or BAT. dont know what BAT means and the sizes are a bit confusing of what was what. tried contacting the seller but never got a reply. maybe I should just phone him interesting about stained glass, but clear is what I'm after. I like using this lamp when camped out in the bush in the back of nowhere hanging off a tree near my tent burning all night
tried base camp and they couldn't help as existing stocks all sold out, and are unlikely to be able to offer a globe for the far east lamps in the future. they also mentioned that they are loathed to stock Chinese copies, even if available, due to poor quality
I simply hadn't realised Die Fledermaus was so entertaining in parts:- Highlights from Die Fledermaus - YouTube
Wasn't Paraffinalia the company that disappeared last year leaving a few disappointed customers in its wake? Edit: seems to be OK:- Paraffin Oil Lamp and Heater Wicks and Spares (parafinalia.biz) Gives a telephone number but says he doesn't accept orders over the phone - odd. He doesn't appear to have much of a clue about pressure lamps - his "Tilley AL8 Table Lamp" is quite something:- Tilley Lamps Serviced (parafinalia.biz)
I’ve just fished these out of the pig hoosie (where I keep my porkies), they’re of no use to me so free to anyone who wants them. One on left has ‘V’ for Veritas I assume, middle one is unmarked and the one on the right has lugs and is marked British Made. PM me if they’re of use.
Best of luck, Jean - I've been trying to get rid of one of those for years! It came inverted in a Tilley table lamp which it fits perfectly except you can't get the pre-heater clip on to prime it. Perhaps I should fit a 169 instead of a 606...
thanks to Paul M who supplied me a new globe. and today I dressed up my Chalwyn Fare East lamp with steel wool then sprayed it with high temp engine enamel. a new wick and looks and works like new
@bonza That is a good looking Far East which is one of my favourite Chalwyn's. Really like the Chalwyn globes with the embossed torch.
yes, the globe is of particular good quality being thick glass not like some of the Chinese copies of today that are paper thin and break just looking at them
