I’m doing a bit of maintenance on a Canadian Coleman 200A dated 6/70. I have two questions for the Coleman aficionados: 1. What is the black on the globe Base rest? Is it paint? The lantern has some loss of plating and a little rust. 2. Is this a correct globe for the lantern (the lantern and it’s globe were separated and the lantern fitted with a mesh cylinder. I have three possible globes, one made in England and another that looks to be a later US globe. Thanks in advance. Cheers Tony
Tony I'm no aficionado on the northern Coleman's... Or any for that matter I normally ask Agostino on my Canadian Coleman questions. @adelcoro Great project
Looking at a recent comparison posted here by @Toby Garner here : 1/51 US Coleman 200 The Canadian example (middle of bottom photo) also has a darker globe base.
To clarify my question 1. above: the globe base rests of these Canadian 200As are different from the earlier globe base rests, and they are matt black by the looks. My question is: were they painted or treated some other way? Cheers Tony
@Tony Press The ‘Guide to Vintage Coleman Products’ (ICCC Inc.) refers to a ‘51 - ‘53 USA 200A production thus:- Canadian Coleman ‘66 - ‘70 evidently had the ‘black painted’ base rest also. No indication of the type of paint though. Matt heat-resisting presumably?
Thanks, John. That helps a lot. I’ll treat the base with pot belly stove polish, and that should blend in well with the remaining black. Cheers Tony
I believe this to be the correct globe for 1970 @Tony Press , but I’m unsure where the printed ‘550’ globe fits in to the timeline
Thank, Mr Aroo. I won’t sweat too much on it. I don’t think I have that particular glass. I think I’ve only got red replacement USA or Mexico. Cheers Tony
