I was visiting my mum today to wish her a happy birthday and on the way passed the Austramax Factory that's located nearby. there was a parking spot right out front so stopped and called in as I am getting low on mantles, and purchased another ten. spoke to the owner and it seems they still make these lanterns, which is good to hear. it seems they do a lot of general engineering as well going by the equipment in the machine shop.

my Austramax is getting a bit battered from camping trips so next time I think I will call in and buy a new one.

That’s awesome, I wish I was closer and make a visit to them. What’s the price for a new AustraMax lantern?

fitted one of the new mantles I purchased from the factory yesterday and fired up the Austramax for a test. burns very well for a lamp that's now 23 years old and has been used a lot.
as you can see, the original spec mantle is large and puts out a lot of light.
it was losing pressure thus requiring frequent pumping, so a couple of years ago I bought a seal kit and now is all ok

Nice lantern, @bonza. And a nice table it’s sitting on.

    Cheers

That's great news to hear. I'm just a little surprised that the company is still in business after all these years, and with an operating factory in Australia. Even more surprised that they still manufacture pressure lanterns. Collectors aside, its hard to for me to imagine any real market for these devices at this point of time.

The pressure lamp side of the Austramax business is small. The 3/300 is the only pressure lamp they build, and only limited production as when required. Their business is now very diversified.

If I lived closer and not for the cursed Covid would like to visit the Austamax factory. The building has that real 1940's industrial look to it.
