Primus 1020 Inner Cap

Hello Folks,

Was there a point at which Primus 1020 and similar lanterns did not have an inner cap, or were they always a feature?
I have one with an enamelled hood which shows no signs of having been fitted with one (or has been run without it for many years
I'd say the inner cap would be an essential part of storm-proofing the lantern, but could be wrong?

I forgot to check the date code, will check later, but it may be a moot point.

EDIT: Doubting myself now, was it only Preston-Loop style lamps which have an inner cap?

 

The Primus 1020 has an inner cone fitted to the outer hood. The idea is to direct the hot exhaust gases to the vents in the hood. Primus discontinued this inner cone during 1954 until the end of 1020 production in 1956.

 

Yes, my 1020 from 1955 does not have the inner cone.

@Nils Stephenson My lamp is a 1956 AV which would pin it at the end of 1020 production.
Mystery solved, thanks for your help.

When I get it cleaned up I'll post a few photos in the gallery.
