Made by Optimohar Industries PVT Ltd., Bombay 79 India. Probably from the 1950s or 1960s but could be later. These are pretty well made copies of Petromax or Optimus lanterns. However as with a lot of Eastern production a little fettling is sometimes required before use. This one had a piece of swarf inside the J tube which was locking the adjuster paddle half way and I had to remove this to make the lamp run. Also the pump shaft lock was badly made and had to be filed down a little to make it run free.
The pump is a copy of an Optimus one. I don't remember seeing that style of locking pump on other brands.
I had not thought of that but now you mention it you are right. This lamp is a heavy one and has the feel of an Optimus. Odd really because nearly all the Indian stuff is either German or copies of German product but when I was fettling it I kept thinking Optimus and I did not really know why.
I guess so. I have a couple of Golmohar lanterns, somewhere buried in the pile there is a 300 cp version which I will see if I can find. Both are actually heavy and well engineered with good quallity brass. Some of the finish on the parts is not great but a little fettling normally sorts any minor problems and they then work very well.
