Hello good people, I have a FL6 that I am restoring for a friend, so I have a few questions with the hope that they can be answered. It has the later large pump so sometime after 1937 but what year? Where can I get transfers, glass and is the ordinary Tilley mantle OK? Any help would be appreciated.Thank you.
Hi Carl. You want a 191 mantle - they are a bit smaller than the standard 164 mantle. As for glass - that may be a waiting game. They turn up on ebay from time to time. You could ask Mike at the base camp as he also stocks the mantles. Tilley lamp spares Fettlebox do a good seal kit for the FL6. If you search for "fl6 decals" as well as "fl6 transfers" you will find lots of information on this website. You may end up printing them yourself onto waterslide paper and then varnishing over them. good luck Chris
@Carl Getting a bead on the age of your FL6 will depend on whether it had or has not: A brass plaque; A transfer; Various fitments; A date stamp… A few pictures might help. Cheers Tony
Have a look at Terry Pownal, "The Tilley Man" in Chester . thetilleyman on eBay has FL6 glass as buy it now. Neil.
Fireexit, thanks for your reply. I will order a 191 mantle and have found someone who can make the Transfers. Thank you again. Kind regards. Carl.
Hi Tony, thanks for replying. There is not a brass plaque. If there were transfers they are no longer to be seen as the paint has gone and as for date stamp I can not see any on its bottom. I`ve not looked any where else so can you advise? The lamp is striped down ready for restoration so no photo`s at present. I would also be very grateful for dimensions of ground level cradle if you have one. Thank in advance and kind regards. Carl.
