Hey friends ! Taking up the subject of "Mistery Lamp" thread, my Korean Tilley TL2 lamp has been finally delivered. Really nice packaged, the lamp must be mounted, each part being protected in a dedicated packaging in bubble wrap. This is a handmade lamp and the result is simply beautiful ! Package contains : - Base tank, - Pump, - Valve, - 7" kerosen generator, - 1 preheat cup, - 1 A pressure indicator, - Top lamp with glass & vaporisor already mounted, this part apply on generator as support. (As Tilley lamp) - Reflector, - 2 Thorium Coated mantle. I had to polish the lamp to give it an impeccable shine (see photos). I cleanup brass lamps with these 2 products : - Pierre d'argent (I don't know the equivalent in others countries ) - Glass cleaner Briochin. Simply perfect. Contains vineagar and citrus. Removes all traces on the brass. Actually, i'm checking the pressure into the lamp to ensure there is no leaking. It seem's good ! First impression : really good !
Well Jean, that's another word added to my Hebridean lexicon! To be honest, that lamp left me proper scunnered!
It does look to be well made with some useful features, so good for you for taking the plunge I can only go by some of the pictures and it could be camera angle, but to me the font looks more like a Kayen? @Hebusletroll have you tried the lamp yet?? From what folks have said about the Korean products the quality seems more like the 50’s than the later stuff? That’s meant to be a compliment, btw
@podbros The tank does look like a Kopsen Kayen tank with the bottom rib being the size it looks in the photos. Tony
Hi all ! The big boy is on fire for the first time ! Using a Petromax HK350 mantle instead of provided Thorium ones, for getting yellow light (and testing the Petromax 350cp mantle). Work as a Tilley lamp : just preheat (i dont use the built-in cup but the preheater tools from original's Tilley Lamps). Opening the Valve, pressurise the lamp and... voilà !!! Actually i don't already fit glass on lamp and reflector. Next photos soon (with glass & reflector). The light is strong, Petromax HK350 are really yellow
[Edit] I take advantage that the lamp cools down to answer the questions. Lamp is expansive, but new and well made : 342.50$ + 50$ postal cost ==> 345,44 EUR I love this lamp and she's beautiful. I take the risk to try this Korean Lantern and the spare's quality too, for anyone that want's restoring tilley lamps (and others brands ). Yes, without the glass & reflector. (I love your joke )
New shots with Glass & Reflector. I'll leave the lamp running about 2 hours, but no leak (not surprised as i've tested pressured lamp previously). Regards.
The price seems not bad at all, she's running like a princess, great to know about the spare parts as well. Thanks
@Jean J .. the base is a clutch pressure plate so we’d probably call it a steampunk lamp? edit ; actually it may be a machinists lamp that originally didn’t have a base so adapted?
Sorry I knew I should have had my glasses on, I thought I read 42.50$ + 50$, not 342.50$ + 50$ which means $587.10AUD wow, out of my price range, the main thing is that you are happy.
Hello Jean. This is a Jielde Lamp mounted on a clutch disc. Héhé, this is why i've said that the lamp is expansive
