I watched a little today while a helicopter dropped golf ball sized balls loaded with chemicals that when introduced to each other, ignite in about 20 seconds, onto a existing wildfire close to home, this helps burn out areas they want to treat. Lots of dark smoke for quite a bit within a short time after the balls were dropped. The Dixie Fire here in northern California has been burning a couple weeks now. The ball drop was to burn off areas to extend the buffer zone of the containment line. Hopefully we'll have full access to the roads so when going to town, we don't have to use Forest Service roads to get around a hard road closure for us who did not evacuate. Still around 5,500 personnel on the fire.

Interesting, I'd say those are quite dangerous to carry in a helicopter. Stay safe out there!

Thank you guys. Will be nice if they down grade the mandatory evacuation to an advisory evacuation so people can come home. I need to pick up a AGM lantern and a couple stoves from Sweden at the Post Office.

Dixie Fire almost burned Greenville further north of me, may still burn today. More evacuations further north around Lake Almanor. Not good. Wind and more heat are contributing to the extreme fire conditions. Some experts are saying similar to Southern California wildfires.

Stay safe. Anyway, what are those balls loaded with? Napalm? White phosphorus or some kind of Thermite?

Don't know there composition, glycerin or whatever is the catalyst.
Chester and more parts of Lake Almanor are evacuated, wish they would open our road so we can come and go freely to town. Winds are usually away from us.

Good news, my neighbor emailed our group of neighbors saying the evacuation had been upgraded to advisory, so we can come and go to town. 42% of the county had been under a evacuation order of one kind or another. Fire is over 400,000 acres, surpassing the Bootleg Fire in Oregon now.
