    Hello and welcome!
You need to make sure it’s the right type.. not all panel wipe has the right formula.. use the search on here and see what’s been said
I bought some Holts brake cleaner that was recommended

    Hi Wim!
Do you use the stuff I’ve heard about called Wasbenzine?
Sorry if I’ve got the spelling wrong

A while ago it seemed very good value.. not sure if that is still the case?

If you're going to use panel wipe, make sure it is naphtha based. Other types will burn just as well but the fumes are more toxic.

Thanks everyone I had a feeling Naptha based panel wipe was a close match to Coleman fuel I will try local motor factors next week

    Spelling is top.
Yes it is good for gasoline burning lanterns. But shipping it to Auckland would make it less economic I fear.

I use wasbenzine (panel wipe) in all my gasoline lamps and stoves. A lot cheaper over here than Coleman fuel or Primus fuel and Aspen4 (which I used before finding a cheaper source of wasbenzine). Works perfect and burns clean.

I've used both panel wipe and Holt's brake cleaning fluid in 5L tins and both work well. With panel wipe and brake fluid you need to make certain you're not buying the water based product!

Holts Brake Clutch Cleaner 5 Litre Professional Pure Solvent Mechanic Cleaning 5010218003316 | eBay

I'm sharing this link not because it's the best but just to show you what to look for.

    1 X U-POL SYSTEM 20 S2001 FAST PANELWIPE DEGREASER 5L Panel wipe Upol | eBay

You definitely need the fast panel wipe which is naptha based. If you dig around on the u-pol website you'll find the technical data sheet but you don't have to by u-pol products, and fast acting, solvent based panel wipe
    Will do.

    Hope this helps

Disclaimer: I've used both products with 100% success but use at your own risk. I am not endorsing either products or making claims about their safety.

    Just wanna be bullet proof!

Well it's Bishop Auckland, County Durham, England - as opposed to New Zealand - and I can recommend D. Ward Motor Factors in Peel Street as a source of supply for the correct naphtha-based panel wipe at a competitive price. Having said that, I haven't been there for years since I stopped working in BA (Bishop Auckland not Buenos Aires ;)). There's also a rather nice collection of vintage petrol pumps on display there if that's your kind of thing...

Edit: I recall D. Ward obtain their panel-wipe from Alpha Paints in South Shields which is another source of supply I've used, although it's a fair-old slap from Bishop Auckland.

    Absolutely.
My Naptha of choice in the UK is UPOL S2001 Fast Panel Wipe.
Burns clean and blue, no residue  (That's almost poetic )

oops, but I have to admit that the UK topography was not that extensive when I visited school.
I fear that the shipping of "wasbenzine" to the UK will also be non economical.

I almost don't want to say to much for fear of angering the god of lanterns, but last time I ordered some Holt's brake cleaner it came in a flimsy cardboard box with some scrunched up brown paper wrapped around it! If the courier had known I doubt it would have been accepted for shipping!

    ...and also non-allowed!

I don't know if they sell the branded versions but the 'house' Panel Wipe is perfectly OK. Just make sure you get the full-fat, industrial strength, high VOC version as opposed to any water-based variety...
