Hi folks. I just picked up a CosyGlo heater and after a couple of hours cleaning dust, spiders, and carbon, I was able to light her up. Fully adjustable flame, no apparent leaks, and some damage to the ceramics parts. Plenty of surface rust to be cleaned up before painting. However, fully working for now.
Thanks Pete. Yep, she puts out a good heat. I might have spoken too soon about no leaks... After about an hour burning on high, enough kero had leaked in to the base which caught on fire. Too early for me to say where the leak is but hopefully I'll be able to repair it. Anyhow, I'll strip the whole thing down to fully clean it and get some paint on the sheet metal.
Nice find. Probably similar vintage to this post by @Graham P though slight difference. https://classiccampstoves.com/threads/mystery-heat-producing-object.36603/#post-377712 Iain
Here's a few photos of the parts... My decision now is whether to keep it as it and use it or drill out the rivets holding it together so I can clean up the sheet metal and paint it. Once I start that, I can't stop but I'd like to use it a bit first. Unfortunately, Covid and poor weather are preventing me from going camping. I think that qualifies as a first world problem.
Hello David I'm new to this forum. I've just managed to get hold of a Cosyglo kerosene heater. I filled it with Kero and managed to get it burning but I'm in need of spare ceramic conical elements. I was wondering if you or any other members would know where to source some from. Regards Joe
You may have to make-do-and-mend i.e. get some that are nearest in size then adjust to fit. Have you tried an internet search for e.g. Radiants for vintage gas heater ? I did once come across the website of an American company that specialised in radiants of all shapes, sizes and designs for antique / vintage gas heaters but can't unfortunately remember its name. Here's one result that came up on eBay U.S.A. Vintage Gas heater insert ceramic fire bricks lot of 4 | eBay
