    Hello

I got a gift from a nice friend of mine - Stainless Steel Ball.

With a 0,23 mm drill the vapourizer was tuned and burns perfect.

    Voila !

I no more need a new mantle :)

Shows you anything will do the job so long as it interferes with the flame and glows red. I have made something like that from brass which worked very well but the brass got soft and distorted. SS like that will be good and last for ever nearly. Cool idea. ::Neil::

and here is the next one by "System Bommel"! But I must made it by myself ;) It works fine with an original Vaporizer.

I doubt the Ebay balls would be of the correct quality.
I would look for the float from a float type steam trap, should be overhauling some tomorrow what size would you need?

    Hi Winchman

I reckon the size of about 50mm / 60mm + or - 5mm either way would be good if you have some that size ready to test 8) , the three i ordered are 70mm but i do have a bowlfire with a slightly worn vap tube so this may perform better with this size & for £4 for three it was worth a punt :D

Thanks for the info on the steam traps looks interesting 8) will do a bit of research on them :D

Look forward to hearing from you 8) , Stu

    Hi,
the balls are from a local Hardwarestore. Normally they where used on top of a fence post.
The ball must be pressed by a bench vice, because the tallness is a little bit to large.

Interesting as it is to make stuff I see no reason why when you can buy the real thing new from Moncrieff. Have a look here http://www.johnmoncrieff.co.uk/shop-2/products.php?cat=40 ::Neil::

Not much fun (for some of us) shelling out dosh, half the appeal for me is all the fetling and repairing, the other half is actually using the stuff.

The Tilley Mesh Ball - I have tried these, and know - they absolutely don't last for ever!

the reason is: selfmade is better than buying :) . My R1 was fitted with the radiator and I have also the original asbestos mantle.
The next step is to build in an selfmade brass vaporizer with a needle and a nozzle of a Petromax. My friend Jan M. use his R55 with a brass vaporizer and a 350cp nozzle. This heater is really hot :D/ .
