Hi Folks, I'm currently fettling my 7/25 Coleman Quick-Lite Lantern. I was going to test fire it tonight but after cleaning the burner up I have spotted that one of the wire gauzes inside the end of one of the barrels is missing Are these steel or brass and are they serviceable/replaceable? Asking before I try dismantling or poking gauze around the place..... I may test fire it anyway, I expect it will have a gout of blue flame instead of a diffused flame? But would the lack of gauze cause it to have an incorrect differential pressure and totally muck up the flame? Dammit, Alec.
Alec most I have checked are magnetic. But brass or stainless mesh works just as well. In my experience they will run fine with mantles on... Only problem I believe you'll encounter is a backfire on shutdown which can normally be overcome by closing the pricker... Obviously not possible with a Q77 or Q99
I've had good luck buying garden hose screens. They're a SS mesh with a rubber washer molded around the circumference. A wire wheel quickly disposes of the washer and the remaining screen yields one burner screen. Cut to size with small tin shears or heavy scissors.
Well I've just sussed that the burner caps are removable. After some heating and quenching I have the offending one off! Threads are nearly non-existent but I think a small smear of exhaust paste and a very gentle nip-up should do the trick Now to find some gauze for the screen, that's the easy part Alec
