My son left it behind when he moved out some years ago. I'm quite sure he doesn't have a Gloria, it was just a loose spare part. Don't know where he found it. It's the tightest bend I've ever seen on a half inch tube, and well formed too, with no deformation.
Apparently it's from the gas lamps / lanterns at the Hiawatha Hall, Gippsland, between Madalya and Binginwarri. (Local history, of pioneering families etc., is available at the relevant municipal archives). If the hall was modernised, some years ago no doubt, Lord knows where the lamps & fittings went. Be all scattered by now. (Though I'd love to lead a search party). I have no idea if the lamps were fueled by town gas, pintsch gas, petrol or carbide. Which reminds me that the homestead in which my mother was born was lit by Gloria petrol lamps. From what I was told, the tank was outside on or against the wall, under the verandah, and the vapour or liquid was piped to rooms through the house. Dismantled in the 1920's, all that remained of the Gloria fittings by 2006 was some small bore copper or brass tubing, some of which my Uncle used prior to WWII to make little put-put boats for the children. Then there's that old incorrigible band master/collector who mentioned to me back about 2010 that there was still a house in Dandenong, Victoria, which was lit by the Gloria system.
Found another item - the outlet to the generator is bent. Looks like there were two cords to control the pricker. Any identification, please ?
Nils Stephenson Thank you ! Seems to have a few parts missing. When lockdown is over, I hope to mount an expedition to the area this item came from.
