Would someone please advise me - how to lift the name of the person to whom I wish to reply to or quote, as in @billsmithetc
I had it right once, but have forgotten how to do it, yet I know it's simple.
So far I can only get " billsmithetc " without the @.

    Thanks.

Try clicking on the '+Quote' button at the bottom right of the member's post from which you wish to quote. Then click on the 'Insert Quotes' button at the bottom of your reply box. Now simply edit out the rest of his post you don't wish to refer to. Then you can type in your response to his quote.

Or are you trying the @zxdsggf function.

If so, type @ and then, without spaces, the person’s handle — eg Tony Press. Hence, @Tony Press .

    Cheers

@Tony Press Nope. Why doesn't it turn blue ?

Ah. I see, it turns blue when it's posted.

    Thank you.

    That works.
But I think it's even better to just mark the text you wish to quote directly in the posters message.
Then you don't have to edit out stuff in the text within the auto-created quote codes. I see that people who use that method often manage to also remove one of the brackets or some other cruicial coding, which end in a distorted message over-all.

By marking the essential text directly, you get that little +Quote at the bottom, and clicking that will add only what's marked for the quote, which then is inserted in the same way in the message field.

As this blue marking seen below which result in the quote seen first in this post:

Thanks Christer. It's also interesting to see the extra facilities you enjoy as a Mod.

Whichever quoting method is chosen, I think the most important thing is for folk to edit out the extraneous bits rather than quote the whole message... :)

    Absolutely!
It's one of the most annoying things on forums when people over use the quoting function.
Of course, when correctly used it's a great tool
