Just got one, but need a mantle or 2, any one in the Uk can sell me 1 or 2 please, or best place to get them from, many thanks ] Keith
Watching ebay sometimes bring results with new old stock. Be careful to not deform the flame spreader when you take it out to trim the wick. let the damn thing warm up before running at full otherwise the glass chimney may crack. In short don't make the same mistakes I did
Every time I try to get an Aladdin style wickie lamp to work I end up realising why I collect pressure lanterns instead!
I know what you mean - but I do like them.. And so does the Mrs oddly enough. Once sorted and you learn their ways simple enough (the lamp that is)
As your lives, mine died ! Left it alone for a bit and the mantle was 95% soot, chimney sooted as was the ceiling and the chimney had cracked. I think it ran low on fuel. Lesson learned I think. New chimney and mantle in the post today. Expensive mistake.
That's something you should never do, unless you have turned it way down. They have a habit of knowing when you're not looking and then decide to flare. A sooted mantle should burn clean eventually. As for fuel, it's a good idea to not let an Aladdin get lower than half.
Thanks Nils. Yup, never again. I had just put a new steel flame spreader on it so it had changed it's characteristics. The mantle was a write-off - there was 8mm deep of soot on the inside - I even tried burning it off with a blowtorch but it was not going to shift...
