Whilst fettling a Tilley Pork Pie 246 lamp recently I wondered why there is an outer ring where the control cock screws in and wondered is there any official way to assemble these parts?
It allows you to set the position of the control knob relative to the tank. It's clever, one thread is coarser than the other so you try different orientations of the vapouriser and the collar realtive to each other until you get the alignment you want. It's a nice feature which presumably got dropped on cost grounds. Regards, Paul
