I may have this one mis identified, but searching the PLC it appears to be correct. I'm a little out of my league here as I normally stick with early Coleman GPA, but I found this one too cool to leave behind. In order to get this operational I had to adapt a Coleman single mantle generator with a double mantle orfice and used some bronze wool for packing. Still need to find the correct gen, shade, & shade holder, but until then we've got a runner
Thanks @Tony Press my understanding is the No. 65 shade is what would've come standard on this lamp. I've seen them for sale in the past so I'm sure that will be an easier find than the oddball generator and shade holder...
A very lucky find! This link shows a Nagel Chase/Tilley hybrid lamp. https://classicpressurelamps.com/threads/nagel-chase-tilley-hybrid-table-lamp.13905/
The original generator would have been this one. I don't think I have ever seen one as a spare but it is the same length and cp rate as a Coleman Quick Lite so possibly a Q77 Coleman gen would work OK. ::Neil::
Thank you @Mackburner Neil. I just placed a Q77 on the Nagel and the gas tip is the only thing entering the mixing chamber with a large gap around it... In my experience this will not allow for proper lamp operation without filling that air gap... Also the flare at the base of the gen is a bit smaller than an original I'm sure... This did however remind me of some brass tubing I have that I believe will be perfect to build a generator out of. When times allows I will make a more suitable, better looking gen... Stay tuned
Well with a little motivation I decided to build a better looking gen for the Nagel Chase. A top and bottom end from a beat up 200/242 Coleman gen with some brass tubing silver brazed between and bronze wool packing added. Using a .008 Coleman orfice as well. Works good Pictured next to a Coleman Q77 for reference Before and after
Very nice lamp ! .. and great fettle! Could I ask what grade of Bronze wool you used please, Toby? Do you prefer using that to a rolled brass mesh? Sorry this is so long ago now Regards pb
@podbros I have used both. The wool is easier to work with for small gens and just works great. The mesh works really good in those short fat gens like a military stoves and some Kamp-Lite lanterns and such where the rolled mesh helps guide a pricker. Here's a link to the wool I've been using. Ah! Thanks Toby, that makes a lot of sense, cheers! and thanks for the link, I’ll have a browse ... i must admit I haven’t come across it over here and a quick fleabay search only revealed Bronze wool jumpers and scarves this side of the Atlantic
