Hi. New to the forum, and lanterns.
I have a coleman 285A dual fuel and bought a Stenly 350cp today. Made in Hong Kong in 1981 it seems.
so, I need a new generator /vaporizer, so far. Needle seems to be broken.
The part I can't fugure out is why the tank is not pressurizing. I've pumped a good bit and nothing happens. There is a rubber gasket underneath the filling cap / pressure guage. That one seems fine. Where else can the pressure escape? How do I tell if the pump is working properly? I took it out and it seems fine. Any ideas with what other lamps the parts may be interchangeable?

G'day @Jak and welcome to CPL.
Is the leather bucket on the pump soft and oily or dry and hard? If it is dry, try soaking it in oil then massage the oil into the leather.
The non return valve (NRV) at the bottom of the pump tube might be stuck. Try pushing a wire into the small hole, you should feel the seal move up and down. Once it does move force some kerosene through the NRV using the pump.

You can check for leaks by submerging the lantern in a bucket of hot water. Air bubbles will be seen rising from any leaks.

Why do you need a new vapouriser? Is it missing? They can be cleaned or repaired.

Thank you. i do not have any leather part on the pump. Just something that look like a plastic/rubber cup.

I will try the wire into the seal in the bottom just now. Have to find a wire first.

The vaporiser seems fine. Just the needle seems to be broken. It was bent down when i dismantled for cleaning. Does it have to move in and out of the jet when turning the knob? If it doesn't, can it be fixed?

    Thanks Robbo55

    Welcome aboard!

Jets and cleaning wires can be replaced and yes, the cleaning wire moves in and out of the jet, that is how it cleans the jet.

    Welcome, @Jak.

If the pump cup is hard and plastic replace it with a leather one.

If you can carefully straighten the pricker wire, do so.

The pricker rod does need to go up and down.

There’s a few RSA members here, so one of them may be able to see you through with some assistance.

    Cheers

    Tony

    Thank you guys

So, how far does the needle stick out through the jet? And is the jet shaped to guide the needle or is alignment important?

The needle only needs to stick out a fraction of a mm. They usually stick out a bit more than that, though.

The needle does need to be straight, but it should be guided into the jet by its own shape and the internal shape of the nipple.

To test, take the nipple off the generator and carefully slip the nipple over the pricker.

    Cheers

    Tony

Hello Jak and welcome to the forum.

Reading your question I suggest you get familiar with how this type of lantern works by getting, reading and understanding a manual. Most lanterns work according to the Petromax principle so get one of these manuals.
If you know you the parts interact you can find faults or operator errors, easier :content:
