I have been trying to find what metal case fits the 242B . I see there a lot of different cases out there. My lantern is in incredible condition and I'd like to keep it that way. I'd also like to match the era of the case with the lantern. I actually had no idea that the 242Bs were made in the 40's! Can anyone help me? I see there are clamshell cases and cases with a lid on top. I am not very much interested in the 70's plastic ones. Thanks
The original case for the 242s was called a "handy pail" sorry I don't have an example to show, but I'm sure a quick search would show you an example. I'm not aware of any of the later cases that will fit a 242 properly.
Welcome aboard! This link shows an advert for the handy pail, but the library is only open to subscribers. https://classicpressurelamps.com/threads/1941-coleman-advert.8175/
There were 60s and 70s era green metal cases made in Canada that a 242 will fit in. To my knowledge Coleman never made a carry case in the 1940s.
