    I picked up this Petromax 882 Rapid Lantern last week. I’ve never owned a PetrolMax before and it looks like it is quite unique! Any information about the lantern and or advice on fettling, and sourcing parts would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks
    Mark

    Well congratulations @MarcoM - for a first Petromax find you have started somewhere near the top of the want list of many collectors !
    I am sure advice from the few who have restored one of these will be forthcoming

    Nice find but do take good care of the glass. In comparison, hen's teeth and rocking horse droppings are in abundance.

    Don't be put off by the shape of this rare lamp, this site has all the information you'll need Restoration of a PETROMAX 829 Lantern

    All the seals are the same as used on modern day Petromax lanterns, and you'll be able to get most of them from the Fettlebox but you may have to go here for others and a jet & needle should they be needed Petromax & Hipolito lantern spares

    A most unusual lamp and looks to be in good condition. A lucky find for sure.

    @MarcoM did you get this up and running?

    I picked up one this summer but it's missing the glass.

    I got it all shined up and everything in working order but never did fire it up. I was nervous about breaking the globe. That probably sounds like a lame excuse but I do have 60-70 I light and use so this is a shelf Queen in the lounge room!

    Since the top is almost identical to the 500cp versions you can use a standart 500cp globe for lighting.
    You can not "lock" it but it will protect against the wind.

    @MarcoM

    What are the dimensions of your globe?

    You can get globes from hytta.de, but there might be a local equivalent.

    Cheers

    I am not aware that hytta.de sells 882 globes.
    They "should" be special made of borosilicate glass by a glassblower.
    It all starts with correct detailed dimensions. It will also help when a glassblower can see an original piece I guess.
    These globes, straight and round are special in the way that they must have an inside rim, to get fixed on the lamp.

    I would enjoy just having a globe I could use for an occasional light up without the risk of breaking the original, possibly non replaceable globe. Any ideas?

    @MarcoM

    On your lamp, what is stamped on the nickel band that fits directly under the black collar? Does it have a "cp" or "hk" rating?

    Cheers

    Tony
