Hi all, Currently I am working on restoring a PL53 storm lamp. I am able to get parts shipped over from England directly from the Tilley website, however the glass wire carrier I cannot get shipped over due to limited flights out of Europe. Has anyone got any spare carriers in Australia? Nicholas
Hello. Am sure TILLEY LAMP CAGE PARTS TILLEY LAMP PL53 KEROSENE LAMP PARAFFIN LAMP WIRE CAGE | eBay will send to you. Tom
Thank you so much for your help, Tom, normally I go through this supplier but he is not shipping overseas until borders are open between Europe and Australia
@Nicholas Aslanides What is the obstacle to postage between Europe and Australia? There are no restrictions as far as I know. I do know that some UK sellers are adjusting to being out of the EU... Tony
Hello. Could it be because of Corona? There are not as many flights as before the Corona pandemic. I would think that the conditions are the same for other countries. a while ago I sent a package to the USA. It was delayed for 14 days Due to the Corona and fewer flights. I do not know if it can also be a problem because the UK has left the EU, but I know that a lot of paperwork must be filled in if I have to send to a non-EU country. This of course entails a lot of work for the seller, Annoying is it, let's hope the pandemy is over soon ????? Tom
Businesses sending goods out of the UK need to complete both paper and electronic customs declarations (and have since 1st Jan 2020). Currently there are no delays in postage to Oz, but local delays of course are outside of the control of Royal Mail. https://www.royalmail.com/sending/international/country-guides/australia For UK businesses selling to the EU they also have to account for VAT as the under €22 exemption ended. Selling via Ebay (who deal with all this for you) or similar is simplest, but for higher value there are solutions offered by Royal Mail. There are service providers with digital solutions to customs and taxation. Most can be automated or integrated with electronic postage. The long and short of it is that smaller vendors often do not see the value in the extra effort in learning how to do these things and then doing it. I suspect that their overseas sales volumes may not warrant it in their own minds. Also the fees play a part (which can be passed on of course) - but honestly we have all become used to not paying import duty and VAT on stuff. Governments globally have tightened up as they see loss of revenue, and some larger corporations taking advantage of schemes to avoid taxation/duty. Of course if a friend posts you a gift - that is a different matter... still a customs declaraton needed and I do note that sending rubber and leather to Oz is prohibited.
Thank you so much for that info, it certainly is complex issue. The funny thing is also I have been able to obtain washers, etc from England no problem, must have been luck.
