Hi fellas, I have finished my 1A Aladdin restoration, I have named my lantern SCAR, it’s been very educational I’ve had frustrations, success, fun, worked on my fettling skills, It’s an all steel lantern , I probably have the part to just replace but there was no satisfaction in that, dated maybe 1942? War time, You can follow my threads about my project, I don’t know how to link them to this post, NRV that would not budge, Aladdin hood repair, This part is a follow on, The cage was very rusted and weak and wobbly, I silver soldered the stems in place , blasted it clean, painted with VHT silver paint, it looks a treat and I think I did it some justice, The pricker wheel arrangement I totally dissembled cleaned up and repacked the gland nut with graphite tape, even the wheel got a make over. The vaporiser I cleaned inside with the wire from a bicycle break wire and out side, the bottom flange and nut with dremmel wire brush, the jet and needle I replaced with a radius 119 reproduction from Taiwan eBay special, the tooling for this must be seen to believe, I re taped the jet with a M5x.8 tap, it fits the jet perfect. there is some adjusting the needle length I have put an Aladdin made in Australia globe I had. ive put it together, burning in the mantle, I had a minor issue with the vaporiser seating in the fuel pick up but I have sorted that, I have a pin hole in the tank that I missed when pressure tested in the water, I’ll be able th fix it. it is now running like clock work, big butterfly mantle long preheat and away scar goes, You can see over my project a lot of it dose not look pretty or shine, but shows some scars a long life maybe a hard life who knows, but I’m very happy with the outcome And now a money shot, Japanese probverb, Even the ugliest creature have beauty Thanks fellas I hope you all like my project, and it gives hope to others who may want to fettle their own project lanterns
How nice ! The satisfaction from restoring an old dog like that, and to finally to see it doing it's intended job from so long ago, is nothing less than fantastic ! very nicely fettled !!
