Hello all, first time poster. Been reading as much as I can absorb. I’ve ended up with a small pile of things needing servicing (4 Tilley x246(b)’s, 3-1/2 R1 radiators, 3 various stoves and two Aida Express 250cp lanterns). Pretty much everything I can find the needed parts for even if the prices are a bit eye-watering in this part of the world, but 250cp lamp parts are eluding me. 500cp, yes, 350cp, yes, 150cp, yes. 250cp, nope! I can’t find any on the ‘bay, Fettlebox or Basecamp nor at the ‘local’ supplier of parts here in NZ. Aside from the nipple/jet and burner, I’m not sure what parts are unique orinterchangeable between the different sizes. Given the size I’m assuming the mixer tube is not interchangeable but do they all use the same washers and seals? I can make pump leathers so they’re not an issue but I need seals and NRV pips and (maybe) the lower half of a vaporizer if I can’t get it apart enough to replace the tube. The lower part (which I think is a valve) is completely varnished over with shiny black stuff and the tube itself is torn. The generator rod is somewhat bent and incredibly fouled up with carbon on the one I’ve dismantled so far. Hopefully it’s recoverable but I’m guessing I should probably replace the needle at least. Neither lamp has been fired for a long time so I’d prefer to just replace all the seals and so on now and know they’re good. Where should I look for parts? Are they still even available for this model? Many thanks.
The shiny black gunk is probably old fuel residue. I find it is easy removed by soaking in Automotive General Purpose Paint Thinners. Have you looked at hytta.de Detailseite: Ersatzteil- und Zubehörliste Petromax 250 HK for spare parts. I don't know enough about Aida to know if the parts are interchangeable.
It's a shame that there is limited choice of spare parts for 250 cp Aida, Petromax and Hipolito lanterns, they are a handy size and with a good mantle, give plenty of light. Correct. Yes !
Well the 250cp Petromax model is not made any more. And that is the source of all the 250cp type clones that are around. As for parts: try my friend Ernst Freis Petrollampen. Top left you can choose language and currency. All petromax 250cp parts should fit as far as I know.
Are you referring to lamps similar to the Aida 1233 or Aida Express 1250? If I'm not wrong, a lot of similarly rated Petromax parts could fit in. The genuine 250cp lanterns are no longer produced. You can try search at www.petromax.com or www.britelyt.com I'm not certain if their websites have been updated but I've just seen some 250HK or 250cp parts for sale on them. Otherwise, you could try to look for 'OHO' branded parts for these. I'm not sure where these are from. Maybe Taiwan or possibly China.
Thank you everyone, I really appreciate the information. I’ll post pictures once I’ve got them working.
A few years ago, when I needed 250CP Preston loop vaporisers to kero-fy a pair of Swiss Army 821 lanterns, I was able to source some NOS German parts from a guy in Thailand. He had a lot of old genuine Petromax stuff/ Sadly, none of the links to him and his shop that I saved seem to work anymore.
Put together a cart of parts I need for the two lanterns. Bit expensive. Ok, very expensive but I figure if I fix everything properly now it’ll be a good long while before I have to do major work on them again. Calculate shipping to NZ…. $174 US Dollars Total cost, almost US$400. As they say here: yeah, nah. That’s total insanity.
I wonder where you found those parts (which) for those prices. Two 250cp vaporisers cost 70chf = 73euro = 76usd = 105nzd. But it all depends on what you really need to replace. Maybe showing pictures will give us a better understanding. AIDA1250 lanterns are not rare but sought after. Due to size and quality I guess but mainly "must have" virus.
Correct but "they" didn't make 250cp versions for a long time now. So normal stocks at shops are empty.
