Just wanted to share my excitement of opening this box today with you all. It was like opening a time capsule. Just loved the original packing. It’s back in the attic now, all carefully replaced as I found it, but it will be on the dining table one day. Any information would be much appreciated, date, model etc. Think it’s a TL11 but unsure.
@James Virgo Wow! Now that is a find! What’s the back story with it? Been in the loft for years, or a lamp you’ve just purchased? From a collectors perspective your lamp may very well be unique as it’s in all its original packaging and unfired. I know it sounds crazy, but I’d have a long think before you consider firing it up! Thanks for sharing, I’m sure others here will have plenty to add!
Hi Steve, I bought it for my 40th birthday gift to myself and have never opened it till today. I just put it in the loft. Now retired and having more time to play, curiosity got the better of me as I may have purchased a brick years ago lol. I have always collected paraffin lamps and have quite a collection, but this one was a good find years ago. I think I will be leaving it unused and stored safely and use the KL80 above the dining table. Thank you for your response. Regards James Just wanted to share my excitement of opening it with people who appreciate lamps
Welcome aboard! That is a TL-10 and that version of it dates from 1939 to 1946, both dates are inclusive. It's a splendid find.
Thank you for the information Jeff, wow on the dates, thought it might be in the 50’s at earliest, amazed at its condition. And now a model number TL10 to add to my list.
A lovely and rare find. I would agree with keeping it as a display item. A intact blast from the past. Lucky you.
Walcop, I agree, just can’t bring myself to light it up even though that’s just what it was made for. I will kill my cravings by lighting other lamps and finding more unusual gifts from the past.
Yes it's a basic model TL10 but with a 182 globe it was sold as model TL11. The same basic lamp with the opal glass shade is TL10 and with a vitreosil glbe would be TL12. ::Neil::
Well two different models at least. Mind you I would check out the cost of opal shades and Vitreosil globes before getting too carried away. This is the table lamp page from the August 1939 catalogue. ::Neil::
Neil, Thank you for the catalog page. It came with the glass globe but I have all three shades on the shelf, so happy days :-)
I’d be happy to find those little fairies at the bottom of my garden. Or even better at the bottom of my Christmas stocking.
Jean J, I just been collecting for a long time, so lucky nowadays, to have the time to play. I just got home to find some packages of recent purchases. Hate to think what I’ve spent over the years mind! Primus 535 stove ( I know this is for the sister site) Very old pink glass shade Opal shade for TL-10 Looks like I’ll be spending a few more hours in the shed ;-)
Wow just wow, what can I say but leave it alone. Once you light it, it's to late to change your mind, just my opinion.
Awesome, just awesome. Now, I could come over to your place and help you with your lamps Seriously, it’s great that you have the time now to fondle your previous acquired treasures and, don’t forget, these buggers once released breed, so you’ll be best to make room for them. Enjoy Pete
Thinking the same buggerlugs, just can’t bring myself to light it up. But someone will one day it’s inevitable lol Pete, they started breeding a while ago lol but I love the way it’s getting brighter in the workshop as I now requires reading glasses. Cheers and beers from the UK James
