I can’t find a direct reference to American Lighting Co. Chicago in Neil’s Pressure Lamp Catalogue, but Chicago has many manifestations of lamp companies, and loose associations between companies and names.. @Mackburner ^^^^ Cheers Tony
Both of these are from Hardware Dealers' Magazine 1902. I have found mention of American Lighting from 1880.
From the 1902 Chicago directory 112 to 120 Michigan is the address of the National Stamping Works but the American Lighting Co are listed at 112 Michigan 3rd Floor. I suspect a multi occupancy building though rather than any company tie in because the year before the Standard Gas Lamp Co are at 118 Michigan when National Stamping are at 116, 118 and 120 Michigan. I do have American Lighting as a possible supplier of the American arc lamp but I am by no means certain who actually made them. White Manufacturing or Turner Brass are possible contenders but the name American turns up often and so far I can't pin down one manufacturer. ::Neil::
Sorry for the delay in response. I have been busy working, researching, trying to learn and buying some stuff... Let me know if you stumble upon anything else in regards to them. White and Turner weren't they merged together? I often see their names together as Turner and White. I was looking at an Arc Lamp made by American. It is missing the fitter/burner. I was hoping there was one out there somewhere that might have a pic of what I would be looking for on it.
@Anthony Probably That J.J. Snyder behind this 1900 Standard Gas Lamp Co. patent! Shows how a limited number of people were involved in many different contemporary companies.
