Hi from Greendale Vic Australia. I'm restoring my ol' Austramax lamp. I've owned it from new, and it's had little use since the 1970's, so just a few seals etc needed. Here it is... nothing exotic!
Welcome Julian! Watching Yours and others posts from other side of the globe. Exciting! Regards from Sweden
Welcome @Julian Whittaker Austramax are very cool lanterns, and yours is no exception. Owning it from new, if you don’t mind how much did an Austramax cost back then, and it’s great to have the history of the lantern
Welcome mate, great to see another Victorian. That's a nice looking Austramax and you had it from new wow that's cool
@Julian Whittaker Welcome from Toowoomba Queensland. The Austramax is a top lantern and will provide many hours of service. One place spare parts can be purchased from is: Kerosene Presser Lamps Parts Looking forward to seeing your future posts and pictures. Cheers Pete
Well thank you lads for your generous welcomes. Just for fun, -here's an old lamp I picked up many years ago in Ballarat gold country (I'm sure the pic is in the wrong place!). Made in Leeds, obviously a carbide lamp and missing its reflector. Very substantial and well made, cast iron with brass top half.
Hi Julian, for me is very exotic, because I'm from Poland and I've never have Austramax in my hands...
Got my Autramax burning really nicely with a new pump o-ring and mantle. Very happy. Trouble is, now my appetite's whetted to get more - reno projects preferably.
Nice Austramax lantern Julian. Your carbide lamp also looks like it is missing its jet/burner. They are fun to play with too. It is probably a Premier Lamp and Engineering co made example - maybe an ealier "Crestella" model. cheers Chris
