It’s the little things that drive us a bit crazy isn’t it? Here I have the burner tube off an early Pork Pie which is firmly stuck on the vapouriser. I spent all day yesterday working it with WD-40 and I left it soaking in some old evapo-rust overnight, in case any rust may have formed on the vapouriser. I can move it up and down about 2mm and rotate it a few degrees but that’s all. Any ideas please to remove it without damaging anything? Thanks in advance.
@Buckaroo , you could try the heat and quench method, or sacrifice another spigot to tap down on to the tube, this may help
I have a spare spigot @Darryl Durdin Im yet to heat and quench anything believe it or not. I do have a kerosene blow torch to fettle tho…
When the vapouriser has swollen and fully jammed, wrecking the vapouriser is the only solution. I have a spare spigot if you need it. Tony
Well this is clearly a common problem, which I didn’t know about. I just pulled a spigot from my parts lantern, and discovered it has two! One has been pushed down to the base of the vapouriser
Any advice when it comes to cleaning a Pork Pie tank @Tony Press , @Darryl Durdin ? I don’t want to damage the gold paint. I normally use meths, Bowden’s Orange agent, Autosol on lantern founts.
To keep your original paint, I would first carefully clean the Tilley transfer with a small amount of car upholstery cleaner (damp it on a rag; wipe gently; do a spot first); then put some beeswax polish on the transfer. Then clean tank with car cleaner; use Shellite on any waxed-on fuel. Polish all with a premium, non-cutting car polish. Cheers Tony
Great advice from tony, I’ll be keeping this in mind. Most tanks I’ve come across have been in poor state, paint worn or burnt, usually a warm bath of detergent, soft scoured kitchen pad, removes the gunk build up, internals I’ve used metho and a hand full of small nuts. Do the shake shake.repeat Until it comes out clear
