Hi Jean, Page 66 of the Tilley book, MS1 or Market stall lamp. I believe it to be a rare old beast. Best regards Matt
Just where have you been browsing, Jean? The only mention of those I can recall is in Jim Dick's book - we don't even seem to have them listed in the LRG. Maybe they're mentioned in some of the early catalogues...
David, I have also read it somewhere on this forum. I can't for the life of me remember where and I can't remember what section. But I know I have seen that number and couldn't find anything on the internet so gave up until I got my Tilley bible then I thought ahhh thats what that is. Perhaps you can master the search function on here and find it because I can't Regards Matt
David, first the memory goes, then.........! Ozzy posted a picture on 17/12/11 and there followed a discussion about chandelier numbers and then the mention (by you) of the MS1. Sorry to say I have the same complaint as I have Jim Dick's book but in my defence I was rushing out and didn't have time to go look it out.
The link below shows an advert for the MS-1, Jeff. http://classicpressurelamps.com/index.php?threads/1408
OK, anybody got one? - even seen one..? Maybe you got one from Auchterbrochterdumbrae market, Jean...
No this has never been seen. As far as we know ot was only offered for sale for one year about 1935 ish I think. I am pretty sure it is not in any catalogue and all Jim Dick had is one flyer for the model which he has illustrated in the book. It is reasonable to assume some examples existed that year because you don't advertise an item for sale unless you actually have some in stock for sale. I suspect they sold very few as they were in direct competition with Blanchard for Market applications and the Blanchard chandelier was the favoured lamp by market management. I think this was an unsuccessful attempt by Tilley to break the Blanchard monopoly in the markets. ::Neil::
hi new post 2021 l am looking to see if anyone has a Tilley MS1 as l find that this is a most interesting lamp any takers
I once hear a rumour that purveyors of hen's teeth and rocking horse droppings may have some in stock but they also seem to be rather elusive.
With your luck there’ll probably be one in your local second hand shop next time you walk past, Darryl. Cheers Tony
@Tony Press , I’m always looking for the out of the ordinaries, a bit here, something there, it’s a great passion, pass time, hobby, social activities, to save a bit of history
