Hello, I luckily found this HASAG lantern in my girlfriend's storage. This lantern was imported and sold in Thailand (In picture 3, you can see the Thai alphabet). Additional pictures are attached below. Please help me to identify this stuff. Thank you PREM
Welcome, are you a collector or reseller ? To be honest: it was a HASAG lantern at some stage in its history. Somebody did some chopping and modifying to it. To only "value" may be the tank and reflector (if marked).
It was modified a bit in its history, tank is like in 351 L but this chrome... Top of hood was added apparently from other lamp...
This kind of tank, globe cage & rest and exterior lining of the inner chimney was used on the pre-war type 5144A. As an additional feature yours is fitted with the original Hasag manometer. Nice shade also. However, there have been made several modifications: The pump cap & rod, the pricker/excenter wheel, the inner chimney and the top cap. The inner chimney was put together from something like Petromax, Optimus or the like, and the cap was put together from the original exterior lining of the inner chimney and a home-made top cap with the posts. It also had to be adjusted to fit the mixing tube. The jet and needle are missing, and the black laquering on the top parts will not stand the heat and need to be removed if restoring is planned. However, due to the massive modifications it may be that it won't run properly. All in all, a lantern that obviously has had a long working life and, from my impression, was repaired by someone who tried to do the best they could with available parts. Not a collector's item though, I think.
Prem what is the lantern market like there in Thailand? What is commonly used and available? I've got some family in Maha Sarakham but they're pretty clueless about lanterns and camp stoves.
Hello @Rustytank, First of all, I've just recently become interested in lanterns. I luckily found my grandfather's Petromax 828E/350 c.p. lantern and then repaired the lantern until it can use again (the pictures are attached below). In Thailand, we have Facebook communities to share information about the kerosene and white gas lantern as well as to trade. Kerosene-typed lanterns such as Petromax, Aida, etc., are interesting now. Many people, who have it, are repairing and sharing their experiences in communities. Coleman white gas lanterns are widely used for camping and collected as well.
That's a real beauty there!! It's great you were able to get it going. I had wondered how it was there but when I asked my family member there he was pretty clueless. We don't have a lot of active members from there so it's hard to tell what the local market is like. Thanks!!
@Rustytank If you are interested in any lanterns, I can find them in Thailand market and send you the information.
That's awesome of you to offer!! Same here if you're having trouble finding something you need there. I know a lot of our members outside the U.S. have a hard time finding Coleman parts
