Sears Junior 742.47

A recent fettle. I really don't know any of the history on these so please feel free to share if you do. This appears to have been made by Prentiss Wabers or maybe Preway?

Well fettled and the build quality of that lantern looks good.

Great set of photos. Too bad Darryl didn’t invest in industrial shelving for the lovely lanterns that took a tumble.

Both are correct. The brand name is Preway and the company is Prentiss Wabers Products Co. Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin.

This lantern is Preway model L47P from 1939-1940. But with typical Sears confusion with catalogue and model numbers is catalogued as 6L 7439 but marked on the lamp as Junior 742.47.



However Henry has an example of the exact same lantern marked as "Sears Junior Model L47S"



So three different model numbers for the same product which is why there is much confusion and listing Sears stuff in the PLC is a nightmare. ::Neil::

 

@Mackburner Neil thank you for the added info and advertisements. I only have experience with this and one other Prentiss Wabers lantern, but I must say I'm impressed with the build quality and surprised they didn't give Coleman more competition here in the states.

 

Americans, they were making so many lanterns... I'm always surprised by new type or brand of lantern but its nice, We always have something new to collect...
