    I was growing increasingly frustrated with my cramped and cluttered work area. So, this week I decided to make a change.

    A trip to Lowe’s provided the lumber I needed and yesterday I got to work. I finished today.

    Here is the area I was previously working on lanterns, stoves and heaters. What a mess!

    Not a great setup, although it worked.

    I decided to build two workbenches, 2ft deep and 4ft wide. Each has a lower tier shelf of the same size, 1ft from the ground. The bench tops are 3ft tall with one workbench having a built-in top shelf (6” deep) 5ft high.

    The 2nd workbench does not have the built in top shelf, but I made a 1ft tall standing shelf, which I can remove if I should need to use the entire worktop for larger woodworking projects. I have them aligned side by side, giving me 8ft of work space. I can also position them face-to-face or in an L configuration.

    Now I am content.
    Tonight, I installed an eccentric block on a 10/71 228F. Works great now.

    Here are some photos.

    That looks way-way better than my living room or any other areas in my house.

    Looks good, but where do you put your legs, when sitting on the stool?

    The stool looking great for fettling, you should consider investing in an executive style chair to sit and relax in.
    I bought a cheap one a few years back and it is great to lean back, feet up, and relax a bit (when the wife isn't looking)

    Nice work Andrew, I’d be very happy with that in my house. Come to think of it I need a completely new set-up for my lamps, all scattered since our first lockdown.

    One thing at a time… :content:
    New seating arrangement is next on the list. I used this stool with my old (lower, messy) setup and it worked.

    Plus, remember that the worktop is only 36” tall. So, I’ve just been either turning my legs to the side so far, feet on the ground, or with knees jutting into the bottom area.

    My dachshund, Ollie, has claimed his own space on a bottom shelf. :content:

    I made a couple of necessary upgrades to the work bench today.

    @JEFF JOHNSON , thanks!

    @george , I hope 2022 is better for you.
    I lost my Mother and younger brother in 2021, so I’m hoping the same for me too.

    Nice work. I just question whether the 4"x4" legs are adequate to support the weight of such a large hound? ;)

    @Ian Bingham

    Thanks!

    I think the shelf will hold him. :D/

    He thinks he’s a big hound anyway.

    That looks great! I could do with some improvements to my workbench too, you may have just inspired me to crack on with it.

    Nice job a massive improvement, but if it was me I would put in a cross beam in between the 2 uprights just under the shelf, as you can see in photo 5 the shelf needs more support.
    That's just my opinion, top job mate.

    Thank you, @Buggerlugs

    I have considered adding a crossbeam, as you’ve suggested. In the pictures, there appears to be a slight bow/dip, however it is just a result of shadows causing an optical illusion. The shelf top is still even/squared.

    However, I do have the lumber, so I will most likely add the crossbeam anyway.

    That's okay better to be safe than sorry.
    Especially after seeing what happened too someone here on the forum when a shelf breaks.
