Hello Folks! My husband grabbed this 'chunk of metal' out of my parents' garage. Some googling, mostly This Site!, tells me what it is and how much of it is missing. I have some questions! I'm not planning on restoring it so this is all because I just want to know.. 1. What Is the 'Arc' part of this lamp?? How does this lamp work? How do you light it? 2. What does the part I have in pink do? 3. What does the part I have in blue do? Is that air intake? I did see Anthony's post and video and he's right about the cats! What is making the cat repellent noise? 4. What is up with this little wick boat thing on Conny's amazing lamp?? I have read the threads of Connie, Sparky, James, Anthony. Any more?? TIA!
The pink is a heat sink. The blue is a wind shield for where the air mixes with the fuel. The wick boat is original and is filled with a spirit to preheat. This is from a Best catalogue.
Very interesting. I have one similar complete and running. It also does not have a base and is specifically a hanging lamp these days. I’ve always assumed the base had been removed, mine was previously electrified.
