Does anyone have the exact dimensions of the S.56 shade for the Tilley FS1? I intend making one sometime soon. Also, where can I get suitable wire, coat hangers seem a bit too thick.

    Hello Jean,
Can't help with the shade but may be able to help out with the wire. Over the years I have made R1, R55, And PL53 guards. You need to use wire from spring manufactures. It does not distort easily. coat hangers are too soft and builders wire also. Fence wire is to brittle. Spring wire can be heated red and allowed to cool where you need to bend it without affecting it too much.
If you cannot find a spring manufacturer locally, if I know the diameter I could post you some.
    Maurice.

spring steel wire is available from model shops with model aircraft building materials as piano wire in 3ft lengths not cheap but may be what you need.
