Hello fellow forum members. I am looking forward to some comments to what your remarks are. I recently acquired a chromium tilley 246b dated 1987. As you know the cage on this model has two rings. I have a cage in much better condition that has the older cage with the 3 rings on. This is a 1972 but in first class condition. I did not intend making the lamp look older than it is but cosmetically better looking. As a collector I prefer to collect near perfect looking lamps. I have quenched the vapouriser with great success and new seals to arrive today. I can make this look very nice but should I try and keep it original and wait for the right cage to turn up or go ahead with my modification. Thanking you in advance of your replies.

Unfortunately, the plating on the later lanterns was noticeably poorer than earlier ones :/

I hope you are able to find one

*edit* .. I just looked on the Tilley International website and they may have parts available.. best to give them a ring before though..

Worth getting in touch with The Tilleyman as he has a lot of parts? Very helpful

Podbros. Thank you for your remarks. Like many older posts about various lamps that have the wrong pieces attached, if I go this way this could be another puzzler or query in future years by a another tilley user if they looked on the tilley 246b reference gallery. It would not matter if used as a general purpose lamp by a non collector would be none the wiser I imagine.

The ones for sale on the Tilley website don’t have the middle ring so will match.. not sure what the quality is like now..
It seems to me that even nos examples that have survived can have corrosion starting around the centre of the cage, even when boxed so something to be aware of for storage purposes

Thank you for the info. The new ones are a bright metal at the bottom fixing plate and not chrome. cheers
