I'm usually to be found on the sister site, looking at stoves but have just bought a 550 from Base Camp in Littlehampton (UK) and already it's performing better than the two 930 lanterns I used to have (they suffered from black mantle disease). Photo below. I will take some of it fired up tonight and put them on tomorrow.

I have a question about various accessories I am thinking about. Does anyone know if the Petromax 500 versions of the top reflector, frosted glass and soft carrying bag are suitable for the Optimus model? I would like to get them if they do.

By the way, on Base Camp's invoice there was a big note saying that they are about to move to Peterborough; not sure if that is Mike moving or whether he has sold the business. Anyway, best wishes to operations in the new location, I hope the move goes smoothly for them.

Yes they are, although the reflector doesn't sit perfectly because the Optimus hood has a slightly different profile. An Anchor reflector fits perfectly.

Mike still has the business, he's just relocating.

Thanks Henry. Action picture below - it works a treat and went on a garden safari with me; one hedgehog and 2 bats spotted.

@Seamanjive In answer to your first question, yes, the only difference between a 550 and a 1550 is the rapid pre-heater.

As I said earlier, a Petromax reflector will fit 550 and 1550 Optimus, an Anchor reflector (or one from any other clone) fits better. It's a combination of hood profile and reflector profile.

Most reflectors for lanterns with this style of will fit, it's just that some fit better than others. Primus and Hasag reflectors are two that are not suitable but I doubt you'll come across either of those. Remember that most 350 and 550 lanterns of this style are the same physical size, 250 cp are smaller.

Hi and welcome, I’m no expert but www.base-camp.co.uk list a replacement glass for an Optimus 1550 under part no 2751. Look on the Primus Optimus spare parts list and it says#74 clear glass chimney for 1550 and several other models.
    Regards Firestarter.

    Hi @Sean.H and Welcome!

You could have a look around the base-camp.. they seem to do some Optimus replacement globes but it may be better to ring them?

It is a common No. 4 size glass globe, as used on Coleman 214, 282, 286, 288, 339 and almost all Petromax 350-500 cp clones.

@Sean.H You may search for a 110x115mm glass cylinder in UK sources for less freight and customs issues.

At fogas.se they sell various glass cylinders that fit. 7CD63752-7C0A-4616-9A6B-DA7599DAB6C3.jpeg
