Hi all, I present to you an example of a "Sunflower N°51" lantern for the Vaccum Oil Company manufactured by Hasag Germany in August 1929. This lantern is in good original condition, no parts are missing, the original needle and jet are present. The glass bears the marking of the chimney of the German industry, this marking was deposited by Schott glass none brass machining stress. The needle control wheel is in red Pertinax. After an overview among collectors it seems to me to be the oldest model presented. I really appreciate this lantern for its rather primitive side of the first Hasag N° 51 lanterns. It is currently being cleaned.... She smelled very strongly of gasoline. I will take the time for a careful review to present its light to you. Thank you for sharing. Regards, Titoo.
Alenstein, For the Hasag N°51 lanterns many collectors use M Schatz needles and nozzles. To my taste this seems to be a mistake because you have to force the screw threads strongly to screw these parts on the old hasag N°51 lanterns. M Schatz needles do not screw on the Hasag N°51 needle holder. If necessary I always restore with parts as close as possible to the original You can find a solution at sellers on ebay their spare parts are suitable if the needles and the original jets are damaged. The needle holder for Radius N°119 and 115 or its reproduction is perfect because it is identical, you can mount M Schatz needles on it without problems. The Radius type nozzle N°119 or 115 are perfect.
What a nice looking lantern. It would be interesting to know why Vacuum Oil Company required these lanterns for their operations. Particularly so with Hasag lanterns. Just a little curious how the production of lubricants and gasoline would have involved the use of pressure lanterns??? Or had there be another purpose? There's some unexplainable appeal about the Hasag. It is certainly sharp-looking to me.
