    Hi
I've been getting some Super Aladdins going this winter
    IMG_3363.JPG
Made between 1932 and 1937 (Irish Free State on control knobs, British made, London Made) still a work in progress. I need to trim the wicks into shape, so I can get them to operate at full brightness, and get some shades to cut the glare from a naked mantle. What is the best shade for light output?

Does anyone know what size the filler cap seal washer is? I had to make my own from a 16mm x 24mm x 1.5mm fibre washer and they could do with being thiner.

    Thanks
    Malcolm

They seem to be working well already. I prefer the plain white student shade for these.

I have a red shade but I think it cuts out a lot of light.

Yes, that is the shade I mean. The white shades give a better spread of light without it being 'sharp'. I suppose it is a matter of trying things and making up your own mind.

I have a white version of the Aladdin pleated shade, but I am not pleased with it. It has a quite heavy parchment inner before adding the pleated cloth on the outside. It cuts out too much of the light. Works fine for mood lighting, but not for using. Moncrieff do the glass student shade (here) but the base diameter looks a bit small. It would only be 9½" rather than the 10" it should be.

@Nils Stephenson I bookmarked that after your suggestion, its a close match just a small adjustment to the support will work ok, I've fitted 4mm ID silicone rubber tubing to my other support, this softens up the docking procedure and hopefully will minimise chips.

@Fireexit1 Could you post a picture of how it fits to the frame? I couldn't see how it attached in the other link you posted.
    Thanks

A fine light up and I also like a white shade on Aladdins, but I prefer a ribbed shade.

@Fireexit1 Thanks, Now that does look fiddly, How many times have you singed your eyebrows fitting that? Nice shade though. I'm waiting on a student shade coming from ebay.
