    I’ve fettled this lamp, works very well. The check valve was not working, but I received a tip to blir pressurized air into The pump tube. It worked. The small brass ball was stuck.

    Thanks. Yes, I replaced The top, spray- painted The base and cleaned The brass parts in citric acid. Quite happy with it. It makes A lot of noise, in A charming way. :-)

    A excellent restoration, the 249 is one of my favorite lanterns. Very bright.

    Agreed - Excellent work. One of my favourite lanterns, too. What paint, & what colour did you use on the fount ?
    We're so lucky that Coleman 249, 242, Austramax and Benzomatic globes are all the same size.
    I have two 249's hanging in the Crepe Myrtle tree tonight. Can't find my sunglasses. :content:
