Hi. Can anyone advise me where I can obtain the very light phosphor bronze springs for a blowtorch non return valve also the cork seals. Many thanks for reading this.
Have a look in the Fettlebox for stove NRVs. Most European blow lamps used the same valve units as stoves. I don't think anyone now sells cork pips but I guess you could make your own from a bottle cork. in general a 4.5mm viton pip will be the most likely size but some do use the smaller 4mm size. Not sure if the springs will be easy to find but you could try to cut down the spring from a ball point pen. ::Neil::
You don't really need that to be made from phosphor-bronze. Any stainless metal spring that has the right size and compression would work too. But anyway, you can check out if the following has what you need: Irvine Industrial Estate 6 Kyle Rd Irvine KA12 8JS Tel: +44 (0)1294 279 396 Email: info@irvinesprings.com You can easily punch a pip from cork. Use solid natural cork with as little natural defects as you can find. If possible, don't use agglomerated cork.
I've found most springs available are way too stiff for an NRV. I have robbed the spring from a Coleman fuel/air tube and cut it to length.
Many thanks for all of the responses to my request. Certainly a lot of food for thought. I have punched out the pip from a bottle cork.(Lovely smell of rum when I punched it out.)Also managed to find a steel spring. Not as much air that I thought, possible needs a little tweak. All the best.
Hi pb, Yes it seems to have worked on the pump. I found a cork with a nice smooth finish. Then cut a slice of at the required thickness. Fortunately I have a punch set with the correct size to fit. Ended up with a nice smooth surface. Good luck with yours.
