Yes. But I hope prayers are also for the many thousands of Russians who were killed by the Ukranian fascists who turned and joined with the Nazis at the end of WW2. Read the history. Sorry, but the other uncomfortable truths need to be mentioned.
@Julian Whittaker Ah, the good ole the whataboutism tactic. That is also what Putin is using: he is now ‘saving’ the Ukraine from nazi’s… there aren’t any. The Ukraine just happens to have a progressive government which is not a puppet show for Russia like Belarus. This kind of sentiment is what is causing wars: not stopping from looking back at the past, old geezers not being able to live in the now and present, as were the youth looks forward on both sides of the border. I feel very sorry for the families who have and will lose family members in this stupid conflict, on both sides. My thoughts are with them.
Ya, the Germans looked good to many Ukranians after how they had been worked over by Stalin. Yes, other uncomfortable truths need to be mentioned.
To repeat the mistakes from the past, does not help to shape a better future. Seems Putin missed that learning from results of Hitler and Stalin. wars are idiotic, if you see our planet from infinite outer space. 7 billion humans 'fighting' to survive their living on this single planet earth? We must learn from the past, and jointly shape a better future.
I apologize for seeing a misled discussion. My intention was only to share my concern about the wellbeing of Ukranian people. If others have different point of view, I encourage to create a separate thread. And not poisoning this one. Admins might limit this thread, if forum rules require it.
There is no part of International Law that makes what is happening in Ukraine legal. This CPL not the ICJ. Respect, please. Tony
My prayers to those affected on both sides and those involved in the humanitarian aid. There aren't good or bad guys in War. Whatever has happened or happening is inevitable. Otherwise, it wouldn't be happening at all. Its both regrettable and undesirable. Hopefully, the conflict gèts resolved and don't culminate into a more widespread and devastating War.
Lighting up my Lantern tonight for the Ukrainian people, those who fight and those civilists trying to hide from the invading forces shooting at them. Hopefully the invading force turns against their command and join the freedom defenders. Regards from Sweden
There are always two sides in any war, and both are right. The administrations drive it. The people suffer it. Ukraine is a nation torn within and a 'buffer' zone between Russia and the 'West'. With its history, that part of what westerners call the East, has always been a troubled area - an area of doubt and anxiety. It has been so for centuries. Unless you grew up there, few Westerners will truly understand the conflicts within and how their way of life and politics evolve. And don't rely on history books to tell all. Beware the bright lights of the media stage, they cast shadows in which much else goes on unnoticed. It is Sunday as I write, but any time is good for prayer. Edited to add: The media at large are feasting on this event which has drawn attention away from other global events, "Nothing to see here - look over there", painting a picture of an aggressor. These links are not intended to 'explain' what is going on, but they may offer a pause for thought. Make of them what you will. @Derek There is no legal justification in international law, or the rules of war, that provides any legal coverage for Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Sophistry that vaguely justifies it is exactly that: sophistry. Have some respect. Tony
I strongly agree with @Tony Press In a war on a foreign (!) territory , never both sides are right. Only UN might decide on such.
Simple; one despot and his administration are agressors. I doubt Ukraine or anyone else was about to attack Russia. Russia's neighbours, the people of Ukraine, were choosing a path consistent with European values. Clearly the Russian President and his cronies didn't like that. They prefer mates like the dodgy Belarusian dictator. I hope Australia will take in tens of thousands of refugees from Ukraine if required.
Budapest Memorandum on Security Assurances - Wikipedia In the Budapest Memorandum of 1994, Russia agreed on and confirmed Ukraine independence and souveranity. This is to be respected.

Wikipedia is a known source of controlled information, as are the social networking systems. I have the greatest respect and sympathy for those in this current war zone.
I agree with @Tony Press . There is no justification for the invasion of the Ukraine nation. The Ukrainian government was following a European democratic model which is just unacceptable to the dictator Putin and his handful of cronies. How Putin can call the Ukrainians nazis and drug addicts when the Ukrainian president is of Jewish extraction is a indication of Putins unbalanced mind. Along with his early threats of nuclear warfare which shows he (Putin) is isolated and lost touch with reality. The Ukranian people are in for a very tough time and will suffer many losses.
Reality Putin is a THUG, with Nukes. He figures he can take whatever he wants, who's going to stop him? Ask the owner of the New England Patriots, Robert Kraft. Putin Stole his Super Bowl ring in front of everyone..."A Gift" was what Putin called it. This dictator now has become a war criminal to boot!
As a world we could do amazing things but seem hell bent on self destruction We have to ask ourselves whether we actually want somewhere for our children to live safely
Today I applied for my state pension. Just pre to Russia’s invasion of the Ukraine I met up with some friends, we’re all the same age. In one of our conversations we spoke about how lucky we’d been during our lives that we hadn’t had to fight for our country’s freedom, fight to protect both our land and freedom. All our fathers had fought for freedom. I sincerely hope that the Ukrainian people overcome the brutal assault on their country. So along with getting my pension I’ve offered the spare rooms in my house for any refugees that may need them. Slava Ukraini!
