Fuel valve on a Coleman 249, among other things.

    Hey all, I picked up a Coleman 249 a week or so ago. I kept it in an electrolysis tank for 3 days, and have no started messing with it. So far it needs a Vent, Globe (ordered), pump cup (I have one), cap gasket, nut to hold the frame to the fount, tip cleaning stem (E-block stuck, someone forced it). Plus it has more rust inside than I've ever seen, and the bottom exterior is HEAVILY pitted.

    SO I have some worries here. It was $25 on the local marketplace and I've gotten tired of fettling 220s and 200a's.

    I still have to drill out the graphite packing and see about getting the stuck block out, but my main focus right now is the fuel valve (part number 249-6531). Originally it had a knob that was pressed on or something, so there are no threads in the end of the shaft or rubbing for a knob to grip. The previous owner decided to bend the shaft into an "L" shape like a lever, which works if you have pliers or the strength of a small village.

    Does anyone know of a sub for this? I have not found anything online so far. I once put a 220 valve in a 237 so I was hoping for something like that. I haven't even pressure tested it yet, but someone suggested putting a 220 nickle fount on it and I just might.

    I wish I could help but I'm not familiar with the 439.
    Edit: I just realized who you are buddy. This is the 249 project isn't it?

    Yes it is. I have no idea why I put in 439. Guess i both swapped the numbers and hit the wrong key when I did it.

    @Parkguy

    So is the lantern you’re actually working on is the 249?

    Cheers

    He's got a 249 that he picked up local. The knob is missing and a previous owner bent the fuel valve stem kind of like how the tip cleaner is to operate the lantern with.[IMG]

    Closer looking at the pic shows the burner cap is missing the screen as well. Looks like the retaining rim for the screen is gone too.
