This is an Australian Gloria table lamp - yet another variation in the range of Gloria lamps produced in Australia. Neil McRae has given it the identity of "AO" in the Pressure Lamp Catalogue, noting that this is not a model number given by Gloria.

It is of a similar set-up to the Gloria No. 20 table lamp that used the horizontal generator, burner and hood/shroud of some Gloria hollow wire lamps.

The handle is wooden. The fuel valve wheel is similar to those radio-like wheels Gloria used on lamps in the late 1930s. I expect that this lamp also dates form that period.

I had to do a bit of panel beating on the burner hood/shroud for this lamp, but I left the lamp in cleaned-up found condition.

    Hi Tony,
Thank you for sharing another great survivor.. I do like the look of these very much

Do you use a preheat fork for starting? I suppose the pressure is similar to your other Gloria table lamps?

I love the little ‘ships wheel’ type filler.. such attention to detail :-)

A listing on the Bay of Evil, and a discussion with @Akeepsake, led me to buying a crusty Akron Diamond table lamp (Model 101, I think), because…

    1. I have another of the same model, but with a stress-cracked fount, and

    2. The one for sale had a Gloria-like fuel cap, and the fount looked very similar to the Gloria AO posted in this thread.

On arrival, I can confirm that the founts of the two Akron Diamond table lamps are the same as the Gloria AO table lamp in this thread; the “capstan” fuel cap on the Akron I just purchased is the same as the fuel cap found on some other Australian-made Gloria table lamps and the Australian-made Gloria 33 lantern; and the Akron Diamond fuel cap is interchangeable with the Gloria.

Left to right: Akron Diamond 101 with Gloria “capstan” fuel cap; Akron Diamond 101 with Akron Diamond fuel cap; Gloria AO table lamp.

It’s obvious going through my collection and past listings here at CPL, that Gloria in Australia was pretty free and easy about putting the Gloria No. 20 table lamp assembly on whatever founts they could lay their hands on.

I don’t know of any “arrangement” between Akron and Gloria in Australia, so I can’t speculate on why the Akron came with the Gloria “capstan” fuel cap, except that they are completely interchangeable.

    Another Aussie Gloria mystery.

    Cheers

    Tony
