Finished getting these working this week. Left to right: A June 1926 Coleman 327 with a really neat home made brass mesh globe. I discovered a leak in the fount on this one. Another collector posted a fount for sale, I bought it and when it came it was the same month/year as the leaking fount. What are the odds? Middle, an Akron 103 from 1921-24 and finally an early (1917-1922) Coleman 327. The Akron and early 327 have their original mica globes.
Looks pretty good. Our local selection is slim around my area it seems. My recent fettle ended up messing up the threads on the bottom of the burner assembly on the Coleman I was cleaning so luckily it wasn't hard to find a used one. Looks like you are better at this than me lol.
@Reese Williams Great stuff Reese. Beauts. That brass mesh globe’s intriguing. How’s it at transmitting light? I’ve no old stuff in the fettling line, but I’ve been having fun with THIS Mil-Spec, not least re-packing a couple of generators with cotton yarn, which worked well. Heck, I can even get the lantern to light on a quarter turn of the control wheel instead of the fully open-whoosh!-throttle back procedure I favoured. John
@presscall John, it does surprisingly well but produces a nice soft light. It will be perfect for lighting a sitting area where you're trying to relax and have a conversation without the glare of a clear globe on a two-mantle lantern.
