was a metal carrying case offered with or made for a
    Coleman 1995 era 288 lantern?
the lantern has the new style pump tube cover.

i don't have the lamp so i can post an image.
i saw a few examples of the metal carrying case on ebay

here is an example of the case.
and an example of the lamp.

i know the case is an older model not the same era as the lamp,
i just wanted to know if the lamp and case i found in a shop are actually mates?
    thanks for your reply

    Hello Buzz
    That's a good question...
There seem to be a few different type of metal cases offered by Coleman, and some (like the one you show) are quite skookum!
As to lamp and case compatibility, there doesn't seem to be a chart anywhere.. not even on Doron Papo's excellent website.
One way would be to search (Google)images of lanterns in cases.

I know from experience that a #288 fits in the same smaller plastic case, that Coleman currently markets, that also securely fits a #200(A)
I think in general the Coleman metal carrying cases were designed to fit a multitude of different lanterns, as well as securely holding(very appropriately;) a funnel, spare mantles, hanging hook and matches/lighters etc..

I have a large top opening case which holds my 236 (& paraphernalia) without any movement or rattling. I know that a 228 will not fit in that same case.

I wonder if the cases have Coleman model/style designation numbers like most over Coleman products?

I don't know when metal case production may have ceased, but, knowing Coleman, they may have offered them exclusively to the Japanese market until recently (One only has to look at some of the Japanese websites which show Coleman specials, exclusive to Japan).

It definitely is one area where there currently doesn't appear to be much documentation of variations, on this, or any other website.
(!Now someone is going to post a link & prove me wrong!)
I'm sure, in time, there will be a posting with definitive answers.
    Cheers
    ThomasL
p.s. from what little of the cases (metal/plastic/plastic clamshell/soft) that I have seen, there definitely are some very good ones available. T.L.

i 'll shoot some images of the adjustable brightness and post later
about ten pounds of kit. heavy if you are go-lite camper, but as Kiwi said , Skookum case

obtw, got these two nice pieces of kit for $7.00 total, i gave the seller two extra dollars as he was only asking for $5.00 thought it sure was worth it

i'll clean up the bottom of the case inside and out, give her a good coat of wax to help protect against moisture and humidity, we are a humid state here in Mudzoory

    Hello Buzz!

    Wow that's one nice set!
Spare generator as well and a spanner, all for $7!!
Did you feel guilty; "stealing candy from a baby"?

I interested to see the case markings, maybe a model or Coleman part no. is apparent.

Perhaps this sites administrators wouldn't be adverse to you posting some more detailed photos of the case in the "Lamp Paraffinalia" section.
(Perhaps with a "reference ruler" in the picture to provide scale)

And I'll get motivated to post my 236 and it's shabby ("well in use" as they said in Walton-on-Thames) case.

    Cheers

    yes, guilty certainly
    with all honesty
i added the spare generator , package of mantles, spanner and funnel for photo glamour's sake. intended of course to bring out the envy "green" in the viewer. kinda rotten thing to do.LOL
anyway a good deal for me and the seller, as i traded some extra stuff to him to even out the trade. (box of old spanners, drill bits, electric drill, 2 ball pein hammers, small axe).

no markings or model number have i found on the case.

by all means, i am a firm believer in used , bumped, bruised, scraped, dented, rusted, scratched, stained , and of course shabby stuff.
signs of use prove value and history to me.

    Of course!
No wonder I or the maps didn't have a clue!

David, you have that Coleman soft case in the "Lamp Paraffinalia" section.

    Should we be posting under;
The Lamp Reference Gallery- America- Coleman-Outdoor-Other Pressure product ?

    Cheers

D'you know, Thomas, I've no idea - I seem to have a different idea of what constitutes 'Paraffinalia' compared to everyone else...

You're fine in here, Thomas. After all it's a general discussion about different cases.
"Other Pressure Products" is not meant for accessories anyway, so that's out, but the Paraffinalia section would be fine if the topic had been about showing just one case.

    Thank you Christer,
I am quite interested in factory "transportation and storage" cases for lanterns and stoves(e.g. Coleman 500 speedmaster), but information and history is quite scarce and homemade solutions abound.

We've had lots of discussion regarding a stove case for a 500 stove (Coleman) but I am not aware of a stove case ever manufactured for that size stove. Lots available for the 502 size stove, but I don't believe Coleman produced anything for the 500 version. Plenty of home-made options out there, but nothing from Coleman directly.
