Hi all, Work in progress slowly for this Aladdin model A /1934. All functions are restored pressure and good in the tank there is no leak. I made the new mica globe. I still have to remove the last traces of nickel with a chimical product. Then a recovery of the steel parts for the last traces of rust. Then a polishing of the lamp for the finish. Here I present to you the stainless steel tools to extract the non-return valve. This tool is very precise so as not to crease the valve. He came from Japan in 2018. Best raegards, Titoo.
This lantern is not at all common and so far we know of 22 examples all found in the US. They normally have a serial number stamped in the red control wheel and are stamped on the vent hood with "Patents Appl'd For". There are 3 patents; US1947194 applied 1st Aug 1930 granted 13th Feb 1934, US1964939 Applied 9th Mar 1931 granted 3rd Jul 1934 and US2023467 applied 16th Jun 1932 granted 10th Dec 1935. As we don't know of any with patent numbers we assume they were all made and sold in the early 1930s before any of the patents were granted. The highest serial number known is 849 so I suspect Aladdin made a batch of about 1000 and because this was an expensive lamp at $ 8.75, which was about $2.00 more than a Coleman 235 in 1935, was a slow seller so not made again. ::Neil::

What a remarkable lantern ! Interesting that they chose Copper for the Top ? Is that small part something to do with pre-heating? It has that cool quirky design look that reminds me of French lanterns? i meant that in a nice way
Thank you all for your interest. Podbros the top of this lantern and in brass. This lentern is physically in excellent condition, two or three micro hits. It was used intensively, probably in a workshop or a factory, but the user had to take care of it despite everything because the bodywork is in very good condition. The top has become red copper because with intensive use and the action of heat, the zinc contained in the copper has evaporated, leaving only the red copper on the surface. For the publication of this particular lantern I will present the patents concerning it and my exchanges of conversations and documents with Terrence Marsh who has done a lots of research on this lantern with Neil Mac Rae.
