Sick of going for the Tilley torch only to find it won't grip the vapouriser and slides down? Go to another meths jar and the torch is broken at the wires. Next one is dodgy and you have to bend the wires to get it to grip a bit? I'm darn sick of torches in poor condition coming with lantern purchases and being close to failing so I had an idea! Too loose and slides on vapouriser. Wires nearly ready to break. Different type but the pressure of pushing it on has done it in. OK so you cut off the wire as close as possible to the spirit cups and then get out the silver solder and a blow torch. What's that, a real bulldog clip with a good amount of spring tension. Here's what its like with both sides soldered just to the top most tab part. I pulled the two wire handle bits off whilst brazing to avoid them getting permanently attached. Here is what it now looks like. The soldering has been finished. The finished repair and now with a good grip. When aligning the bulldog clip it must be square on to the spirit cup or else the second cup will be too far forward or backwards to align correctly. Iain PS Apologies if this has been done before but I searched and could not find something like this.
Iain, I think you are on to something. Looks like a good solid fix. The heat from silver soldering didn't anneal the spring?
Gooday Martin, Seems not to have as I applied the heat to just the corner tab. Spring is still springing!
