I am waiting on a ball nut, gasket for fuel cap, and a packing for the valve as the graphite string packing is shot. Got it all looking as good as I can, and assembled "tight enough" for a photo shoot. I believe I need to rotate the cage so the cutout on the rim is above the fuel cap for final assembly. The mica is in very good shape, but the metal framework is suffering some corrosion, and has lost its shine. I believe I may just leave that as it is original, and I do not want to ruin anything. I heated and quenched the generator several times, and the tip is clear. Some carbon came out so hopefully when parts arrive it will be ready to go. I am, however, struggling with the thought of if I should fire it up or not. It will be a display piece most likely as I have enough others to play with and fire up when needed. What do you think?
It's cleaned up nicely. Fire it up or not is up to you, but if you don't fire it at least once you will never know if it actually works
Well, had an airleak at the neck of the pump where it threads into the fount, and got that solved. Burned a bit, and then generator clogged. I did heat and quench several times before assembly, but did nothing with the original asbestos wick in the generator. I cleaned the tip with a needle from a different generator, and it fired up and I ran it for about an hour. It is a dull yellow light, with some hot spots of white on the mantles. I am thinking I need to do something about the wick concern in the generator. I do have a zippo wick coming later this week, so I can try the unroll, replace, reroll the brass trick. Any other ideas?
Not sure what I did, but let the pressure out, pumped up again, and now it’s all bright white and nice.
