It's been a while... and although I don't exactly relish a powercut as such, it's a great chance to pull out a few lanterns and let them do their stuff. On this occasion I had advance warning as I had been informed by the electricity company that they would need to disconnect or supply to do some urgent repair work. It was due to end at 5pm but as the sun went down and the house grew darker and darker I got prepped. What did I chose? My Coleman 220 kero conversion and my 639. Both belt out the lumins and start dead easy. One in the kitchen and one in the living room was enough and we all chatted happily until the supply was finally restored at around 10pm. 220 with cat! The 639 pretending to be an occasional lamp. As the summer progresses it stays light later and later, but inside, you still need some artificial light or you end up tripping over everything. Chatting over a cuppa made on a camping stove with the hiss of a pressure lantern is still a special experience even when you're not camping.
That was a really nice moment. We seldom have power cuts or outages these days. The only problem of a power cut for someone like me living in the hot and humid tropics is that even the night heat would be sweltering and I'd be soaked in sweat. That's even without having a lantern in operation. I think its probably way more comfortable on such occasions in the UK or any other temperate regions around World. Maybe, besides during deep freezing winters.
Scottish cats are very large, dangerous creatures! I believe its sitting on the table and yes nice light up in some pleasant looking surroundings.
Oddly enough I never noticed that weird optical illusion with the cat when I posted the photo! 'Gigi' is actually the smallest of our 4 feline chums but the table/sideboard thingy we use as an island has the exact same tone as the floor! And @MYN we don't have power cuts much any more so when we do, it's nice to enjoy them. For purely practical reasons I chose 2 Coleman lanterns as 'they just work' and these two are as bright as a tiny sun. To be honest, most of my lanterns would have done a grand job but these two needed an outing! Unfortunately, once they've finished renewing the village's electric cabling we'll have even fewer power cuts!
