Last week we had a nice lantern meeting in Ladbergen/Germany. More than 60 collectors light up their lanterns, lamps and stoves. a nice video: Here two pictures of our stand: from left to right: Ditmar 506 Optimus 200 (thanks to Harder ) AIDA 245 Standard 400 AIDA 237b HASAG Polar 3a Petromax 523/821/chrome Petromax 830 Optimus Railroad lantern (?) Petromax 836 Aladdin Estelar 836 Tilley Electra L.A. Washington another image:
The lamp at 1:30 . Does anyone know if the bottom tube is just a stand, or is it in fact an extended fuel tank? If the latter, it must be an absolute pain to pump up when its not at full capacity haha. Also, how do the pulsating hurricane lanterns at 6:18 work? i.e. what is the mechanism that helps them pulse/strobe? They are very cool.
Seems like a fun gathering! From 6:09 it showed a number of pulsing wick lanterns, see the GIF I made from that part of the video: Dropbox - IMG_1081.GIF - Simplify your life I am not very familiar with wick lanterns, how is this flickering achieved?
The flickering is caused by air shortage and in fact a poor burning lantern. The red Rhewum is the best known. Erik Leger made a page about them:
A wonderful collection of lanterns/lamps. Evident everyone was having a good time as things return to normal.
@leo Was that the "alternative" for Sassenberg? I didn't follow the threads on the Pelam Forum. There will be another German meeting in Ebrach/Germany from June 16 to 19. Anyone who would like to attend is welcome! I am almost every year on this meeting, it takes place every year at the same time (Corpus Christi) in a different place.
@Martin K. yes it's the new camp ground. The meeting has nothing to do with the Pelam Forum, it is organized by some collectors independently, I for example provide the webspace. In the Pelam forum there are threads about it, because it is not tolerated in the other forum rather, or gladly seen. It is a meeting without any affiliation of a forum, organization or denomination . This fairy tale of Pelam, or Hytta meeting should actually be over after almost 20 years.
That's also what I understood. I only asked because I didn't notice anything about this meeting beforehand. Which is not surprising, since I only use a very limited number of sources of information. Of course I realise that every collector is welcome at every (open) meeting, surely with the exception of private meetings. But I also realise that different people have different priorities and habits depending on their circle of acquaintances. Nix für ungut, Martin
@leo Thanks for the nice Video and pictures You represented the donut lamp fans very well Regards Reinhard
